Tropical Storm Arthur is the first officially named storm of 2026. No impacts to Arkansas are expected.

Tropical Storm Arthur has formed in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico and continues moving northeast along the Texas coast this afternoon.

As of the latest advisory, Arthur has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and is located about 60 miles northeast of Port O'Connor, Texas. The storm is expected to move inland across southwestern Louisiana tonight before weakening and dissipating by Thursday.

While tropical storm-force winds and coastal flooding remain concerns along portions of the Texas and Louisiana coastlines, the greatest threat from Arthur will be heavy rainfall and dangerous flash flooding.

Widespread rainfall totals of 5 to 10 inches are expected from southeast Texas through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, the western Florida Panhandle, and parts of western Georgia. Isolated amounts approaching 20 inches are possible in some locations, which could result in significant flash flooding and river flooding.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect from Sargent, Texas, to Morgan City, Louisiana, where tropical storm conditions are expected today.

Additional hazards include:

• Storm surge of 2 to 4 feet along portions of the Texas and Louisiana coastline • Dangerous surf and rip currents along Gulf Coast beaches • A few tornadoes possible through Thursday from southeast Texas into Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the western Florida Panhandle

Residents across the Gulf Coast and Deep South should closely monitor forecasts and heed any warnings issued by local officials. The flooding threat from Arthur may continue well after the storm itself weakens.

We will continue providing updates as Tropical Storm Arthur moves inland.
